D'ARTS MAGAZINE

D'ARTS magazine is published by the Durban Arts Association, a non-profit making organisation funded by the Ethekweni Municipality. It reflects the
brief of Durban Arts - that of promoting the arts in Durban from grassroots to professional levels in all disciplines. The only magazine of its kind in
KZN (and, possibly, the country), it received the first print publication
award (1997/98) of the Arts & Culture Trust of the President for its
wide-ranging coverage of the arts.
One of the most valuable features of D'ARTS is its Events list, a
diary of all events for the forthcoming month produced by courtesy
of the KZN arts website artSMart (www.artsmart.co.za) This means
that the magazine offers a constant reference during an entire
month in the same way as a monthly radio and television guide.
D'ARTS is printed in black and white on Envirotext with a
glossy cover. Care is taken to make advertisements look
interesting and creative and to place them for optimum
visibility. The magazine is posted to Durban Arts members
who number approximately 1,200. However, its actual
readership is possibly five times that much as it is
distributed to regional libraries throughout the country and a
survey done about five years ago estimated a readership of about
5,000. Individual addressees include school, university and technikon resource centres and
D’ARTS is on sale at The ArtStand at the popular Essenwood Markets on Saturdays.
Deadline: 15th of the month prior to publication.
