Durban Arts Association was formed on 25 March 1983 as a non-profit organization under Section 21 of the Company’s Act. This made it subject to company’s acts audit with its books also audited each year by the City Council accountants. Since then Ethekwini Municipality provides most of our funding.
Ethekwini Municipality’s key brief to Durban Arts Association was and continues to be “to promote and foster the arts and culture across the broadest spectrum in the greater Durban (Ethekwini), among all its different communities” and this is emphatically embodied in our memorandum of association with the city.
